Global Recycling Day: Giving Furniture a Second Life
The Furniture Project has redeployed approximately $750,000 worth of good back into the Omaha community.
At The Furniture Project, we believe in the power of recycling—not just for the planet, but for the people in our community. This Global Recycling Day, we’re taking a moment to highlight how your donated furniture helps create a more sustainable, supportive environment for those in need.
According to the EPA, Americans throw out more than 12 million tons of furniture every year – that’s the equivalent of 120 Washington Monuments. However, with your help, we’re able to repurpose and redistribute gently used items to families and individuals who are struggling or facing a major life change. Your furniture donations make a huge impact. By redistributing household items, we’re reducing waste, conserving resources and providing much-needed support to those who may not have access to the basics. It’s a win for everyone.

We rely on the generosity of donors in addition to the collaboration of our referral partners. When you donate, you’re not just clearing out space in your own home – you’re giving neighbors the opportunity to rebuild their home, improve their quality of life and thrive.
As we recognize Global Recycling Day, we encourage everyone to consider how they can contribute. A simple donation of gently-used furniture can make a world of difference for our clients. Together, we can keep furniture out of landfills and help those who need it most.
